A man left concussed and struggling in the sea when a boom broke his nose has helped set up a fun run to thank his RNLI lifesavers.
Dave Hursthouse was aboard a yacht in 2007 when he was struck in the face by the boom, which broke his nose and left him concussed in the sea.
Grateful to the crew of Porthdinllaen RNLI for saving his life, Mr Hursthouse helped set up a fun run last weekend to raise money for the lifeboat crew.
Speaking after the run, he said: “As a family we’ve been supporters and fundraisers of the RNLI ever since I had a nasty sailing accident in 2007 and was rescued by the RNLI crew.
“It’s a debt I’m not sure will ever feel properly repaid. I’ve done a number of sporting challenges as fundraisers over the years and over a meal with friends and crew members of Porthdinllaen RNLI earlier this year we hatched a plan for a family fun run with the aim of making it as inclusive as possible for all ages and running abilities.
“It was a fantastic team effort and I think we’re all a little overwhelmed at the support we got for the event! A huge ‘Thank You’ to everyone who supported the event and hopefully see you next year!’
Hundreds of runners braved the elements on 17 August to help raise money for the RNLI crew by taking on either the 2km or 5km circuit.
