ON Friday, 18 March Dyfi U3A held their usual monthly meeting in the Bowling Club. Margaret Jeffries told them of the romantic tale of the Poco Hunters and enlightened those whose first question was ‘the who?’.

FOLLOWING round 14 on March 3, individual standings in the Machynlleth and District Pool League has reached a crucial stage with only four rounds left of the current season.Scotty Davies, of Llew Coch A, led the race for honours in division one after boosting his winning sequence to 37 of 42 frames. Hard on his heals was White Lion A’s Mark Gaskell who trimmed Scotty’s lead thanks to 35 wins from 42 frames.Making up the other top six places were Gareth Evans (Tredegar Arms) 29/40, Arwel Owen (Skinners A ) 26/37, Brian Davies (White Lion A) 26/39 and Tredegar Arms’ Dai Owen with 26 wins from 42 frames.In division two, Wynnstay Llan-brynmair’s Edward Jones took top spot curtesy of an impres-sive 90 per cent success rate of 27 wins from 30 frames while, in second place, Foresters’ Robert Lewis has totalled 26 wins from 32 frames. Meanwhile the next four places were taken up by Mike Akers (Y Llew Coch Dinas) 23/33, Aled Jones (Foresters 22/30, Gwil (Y Llew Coch Dinas) 21/25 and Lee Jones of Skinners B with 21 wins from 34 frames.The second round of matches in the North Wales Pool Associa-tion Inter League brought mixed fortunes for Machynlleth’s two county teams. Machynlleth A failed to build on their open-ing round division one victory, losing at South Powys Panthers by 22 frames to 18. Machynlleth B, however, remained unbeaten with a 20-20 share of the spoils at home to Rhyl B in division three, following their first round suc-cess at Conwy B.Mid-day talkON Wednesday, 30 March, curator Dr Peter Wakelin will give an illustrated talk about the ideas behind the current exhibi-tion Romanticism in the Welsh Landscape, which is on display at the Museum of Modern Art, Machynlleth.Dr Wakelin’s talk will also show how Wales has inspired visual artists from the renowned 18th century Richard Wilson’s day to the present.The talk, which is free, starts at noon at the Tabernacle, Heol Pen’rallt.

PLAYING their hands to best advantage in both defence and at-tack, Foresters B are the Dyfi Valley Dominoes League’s 2015/16 champions. They held off the challenge by main rivals Dovey Inn to claim the silverware by ten points, despite the runners-up securing a fighting 8-point victory in their final fixture.Final table: Foresters B (131 pts.), Dovey Inn (121), Slaters (119), Red Lion A (114), Penrhos (109), White Horse (105), Foresters A (102), Red Lion B (96), Wynnstay Llanbrynmair (92), Bowling Club (91).
