AGM
ON Sunday, 7 February, the inaugural joint AGM of Dyfi Land Share and Green Isle Growers proved a great success, attracting an excellent attendance at the Machynlleth Bowling Club.Members heard about the last year’s activities including the GIG Veg Box scheme working as a coop of growers to supply 45 veg bags per week; the Land Share project matching up four new land shares and organising a list of successful courses. Members also heard about Edible Mach Maethlon creating and expanding 10 public edible gardens with the help of 73 volunteers. A decision was made to wrap up the Dyfi Land Share community group, but this is not the end, as Dyfi land Share will be immediately reopened under the Green Isle Growers company structure. This will allow Dyfi land Share to benefit from the protection of legal incorporation, as well as be part of an exciting cooperative of people all working together to increase food production in the Dyfi Valley. This year will see the GIG Box scheme running for a third year as a cooperative, with a big drive to sign up more customers. There are also plans under foot to grow some field-scale crops up at Blaeneinion. They are also introducing a new ‘café box’ scheme to sell more of our surplus veg in the coming months. Land Shares will continue to be made and courses will continue to be run. The Land Share project is looking for more funding in March and, if successful, will be looking into the possibility of setting up a new allotment site near to Machynlleth.Edible Mach Maethlon has achieved funding from Awards for All to create a show allotment in the Plas. They are also going to be working with two local primary schools to deliver food growing workshops.
Unfortunately, Edible Mach was unsuccessful in another recent funding application and are currently left with a funding hole for core activities of running gardening sessions in the town to maintain our Edible Town trail. Any help with funding would be much appreciated.
