Dominoes appreciations

THE proprietors of Machynlleth’s Dyfi Forester Inn thanked all those who took part in the Machynlleth District Summer Domino League. This includes all players and the various venues, especially the Dyfi Hotel Cemmaes Road who hosted the successful finals evening.

As usual the proceeds went to charity, this year the Wales Air Ambulance Service.

Planning

IN the period 14 October to 4 November, county planner approved the following applications under Powys council’s scheme of delegation: Demolition of existing wood store and erection of a garage, 12 Cae Crwn, Machynlleth; construction of a hydroelectricity scheme to include a turbine house and associated works, Rhosyfoel, Aberhosan; erection of five dwellings, garages and formation of vehicular access (outline) (resubmission), land opposite Rock Terrace, Llan, Llanbrynmair.

Christmas fair

THIS year’s Christmas charity fair will be held in the community hall at Plas Machynlleth on Saturday, 28 November, 10am - 3pm.

Charities that have already confirmed their presence include Oxfam, Quakers, DEC, Advice Mid Wales, CAMAD, Cariad. Other charities are likely to confirm their attendance shortly.

Council meeting

THE town council will meet Plas Machynlleth on Monday, 30 November at 6.30pm.

Pool league

DIVISION 1 leaders Red Lion A and Skinners A were the only teams to retain their unbeaten status after week 4 in the Machynlleth and District Winter Pool League on Thursday, 5 November.

Red Lion A made the trip to Rugby Club B and returned with a 13-2 win while, at White Horse A, Skinners A won 9-6.

Completing the division’s results, there were home victories for White Lion A over Rugby Club A (11-4) and Tredegar Arms over Red Lion B (13-2), while Bowling Club came away from Dwynant with a 9-6 score line.

In Division 2, leaders Y Llew Coch registered a 9-6 victory at Rugby Club C and Slaters won 9-6 at Red Lion Ladies.

With a 9-6 result, Wynnstay Llanbrynmair won at home to White Lion Ladies and Foresters won their home encounter with Penrhos 10-5.

Darts

UNBEATEN leaders Dwynant, having won 27 of 30 rubbers, have stormed ahead of the field in the Dyfi Valley Darts league, following week three’s round of fixtures.

IN the absence of branch chairman Richie Jones, vice-chairman Stephen Doyle welcomed 15 members to the AGM of the Machynlleth and district branch, which was held at the bowling club on 3 November.

The Exhortation was given in Welsh by Eufyl Williams and in English by Anthony Jones.

Secretary Anthony Jones gave apologies for 13 members and took members through the minutes of last year’s AGM. There were no matters arising.

President, Sylvia Rowlands, took the chair for the election of officers for 2015/16, and it was proposed by Kath Holt and seconded by Evelyn Jones that all officers remain at their posts for the coming year. The motion was carried.
