A local lottery in Meirionnydd is making a real difference to the community.
Loteri Dolgellau has offered its latest support to Llecyn Lliwgar, a project in the grounds of Ysgol Bro Idris.
The project is led by pupils at the school who are going to work hard to transform an area of unused rough land into a colourful vegetable, herbs and flower garden.
The project gives the youngsters the opportunity to learn several new practical and team skills.
A Loteri Dolgellau spokesperson thanked the public for supporting the scheme, allowing them to continue to help local projects.
“Diolch yn fawr am gadael ni cefnogi syniad arbennig a fydd ni gyd yn edrych ymalen i weld y newiadau,” they said.
Clearing of the land at Ysgol Bro Idris has begun and Loteri Dolgellau wishes the youngsters good luck with the project.
The local lottery was set up by sports clubs in 2014 as a new way of generating more money for the clubs, whilst also keeping a percentage aside for other local schemes to apply for funding.
“We have held a total of 12 lotteries to date,” the spokesperson explained.
“Each time the lottery comes around, we do a total of 10 draws and each lottery number bought has a chance of winning in each draw.
“We have raised over £15,000 in this time for the sports clubs involved and many other local initiatives.
“It’s been very well supported and it would be nothing without the loyal supporters and hard-working volunteers who help sell the lottery numbers.
“Local people have also recognised Loteri Dolgellau as a worthy cause to donate money towards, where the funds have then been shared equally to the sports clubs after setting aside a percentage for other local schemes such as school projects, Dolgellau Hospital. Sesiwn Fawr, Cylch Meithrin and many more.”
The sports clubs involved initially were the football, rugby, cricket and golf club.
The golf club no longer exists, and other groups have joined since, including Cader Idris Gymnastics Club, Dolgellau Netball and Meirionnydd Special Riding Group.
Information about the lottery, and about donations made since it started, can be found on the group’s Facebook page, Loteri Dolgellau.
