Madam,

What is happening to Llanon? (‘Contractor ‘harassed’ for maintaining footpaths’). My friends in the rest of the UK and abroad cannot believe what is going on.

The article reports the police’s enquiries have taken two months so far. Dyfed-Powys Police’s sluggishness about this isn’t giving residents any confidence if someone else is physically and verbally abused in Llanon.

In a week where former Scotland Yard chiefs were saying public confidence in the police is at one of its lowest points, I did not expect the case to be so in Llanon itself.

I couldn’t believe the community council’s total lack of concern. Don’t they care that under their watch Llanon is turning into the Wild West? Don’t they have a duty of care to the contractor, his family and the people of Llanon?

I could not attend the public community council meeting on 2 July, but many elderly residents have encouraged me to write this letter and it shows how priceless a free and independent newspaper is for voicing ordinary people’s concerns.

We know there are a few community councillors elected a couple of years ago who have worked hard for the improvement of Llanon, which is very much appreciated. More has been done by the council in the last two years than the last 20 years.

Yet now Llanon has become a jungle. The footpaths are impassable, there are barbed wire fences and collapsing fence posts all along public footpaths, which is illegal and dangerous, especially for the elderly, children and the disabled. They should all be removed.

Some of the public council seats in Llansantffraed are overgrown with nettles or are broken, and a new chalet for walkers and residents promised for four years needs to be built soon by a professional builder on the coastal path.

What are Llansantffraed community taxes being spent on?

The Peris river is absolutely disgusting. I have taken photos with the banks filled with old tyres, plastic, rusty metal and other rubbish. Do the people responsible want to live by an open sewer?

This would not be tolerated in other villages, especially when the country is becoming more concerned about the environment.

Why isn’t the Ceredigion Cabinet member for the environment doing anything about all of this?

The community council and county councillor need to get off their backsides to sort these problems out now. They are servants of the whole community

. Does the community council want Llanon to become known as the ‘Slum Jungle’ of Ceredigion?

Llanon is a very beautiful place with many wonderful people and a few good community councillors. I hope the councillors get their act together, and I hope the police give us some public reassurance that Llanon is not the Wild West.
