Valentine’s draw

THE winner of this year’s free customer draw for Valentine’s day at Woosnam & Davies News was Jenny Fisher, who won a bottle and a box of chocolates.

Concert

A TREORCHY Male Voice Choir concert was hosted by Llanidloes Rotary on Saturday night.The choir, along with soloist Jessica Robinson under the direction of conductor Jeffrey Howard and accompanied by Helen Roberts, treated the audience of over 500 people China Street Chapel to a musical treat with pieces ranging from the tear-jerking World War One song Roses of Picardy featuring bass soloist Ray Daniels and the most well-known of Welsh love songs Myfanwy to the modern You Raise Me Up and You Make Me Feel So Young.The compere for the night Dean Powell tied everything together with well researched facts about the choir, choristers and Llanidloes, alongside good old-fashioned funny jokes and quips. Everyone had a truly wonderful evening and the enjoyment of the choir went on into the small hours singing and chatting with new friends at the Llanidloes Rugby Club.

Quilters

THE Welsh Heritage Quilters present a biennial exhibition entitled Sweet Sixteen Quilting Dreams from 26 March to 9 April, open 10.30am to 4.30pm (except Sundays) at the Minerva Arts Centre

Mexican night

A MEXICAN theme night is being held on 16 April starting at 7pm in the Function Room by the Old Mill, in aid of the Friends of Llanidloes Primary School.The cost is £15 per person including a drink, Mexican buffet and des-sert. Volunteers sought

CAN YOU help Age Cymru help the over 50s? Do you have any spare time to make a difference to people aged 50 or over? Age Cymru has vacancies for volunteers to help in their expand-ing Simply Nails clinics, which are coming soon to Crickhowell and Llanidloes. All training needed will be provided. LLANIDLOES Tenovus is launching a new Llanidloes Fundraising Group who need enthusiastic friends to help plan events in your local community. It could be quizzes, craft fairs or coffee mornings. Bingo

THERE is a bingo evening in aid of Marie Curie on Wednesday, 9 March, doors open at 7.30pm, eyes down 8pm at the Rugby Club. The 50p entry for adults includes tea/coffee and biscuit.

Walk

THE Hospital League of Friends is conducting a sponsored six-mile walk on Sunday, 20 March.Sponsor forms are available from Woosnam & Davies News, or the hospital. Anyone who would like to join them on the walk, is welcome from the Gro car park at 10am. It is to help raise money for the new palliative care suite at Llanidloes hospital.

Lent lunch

CYTUN Churches Together in Llanidloes’ Lent Lunch this Fridays noon till 1.30pm. ‘The Disciples’ Disappointment’.

Textile exhibition

THERE is free admission to an exhibition of stitched, printed, embroi-dered and woven textiles, costumes and artefacts from around the world in Llanidloes. It is a chance to meet world textile experts, traders and collectors and makers. Plus at 11am and 2pm there will be special talks by experts. It takes place on Saturday, 19 March, 10am to 5pm, at the Minerva Arts Centre.

Coffee morning

THERE WILL be a coffee morning in aid of the Ponthafren Outreach Group at Trinity Church, Short-bridge Street, on Saturday, 12 March, from 10am to noon. Tickets are £1 each.

Bra bank

LLANIDLOES Inner Wheel is asking for support from ladies in the form of bras to fight breast can-cer. They are asking for your old wearable bras in a bra amnesty to raise money and also provide bras where there is a short supply. The Bra Bank is in Llanidloes Pharmacy and from there unwanted bras will go to Africa as well as Against Breast Cancer receiving a donation based on the weight of bras collected.

Chess and ‘Politrics’

Café Church

CAFÉ Church meets on the second Sunday of every month at 6pm in St Idloes Church Hall. It is a chance to relax with an informal service, guest speakers, singing and chat and cake.

Chatwood

EVERY second Tuesday in each month is ‘Choo Choo Choosday’ where all model railway enthusiasts are welcome, from 7.30pm. Chat-wood is 6 Longbridge Street.
