THE Royal British Legion Rhoshirwaun and district branch is appealing for new members to help with poppy collections and remembrance services.
The legion is one of the oldest in Wales and was established in 1922, four years after the end of the First World War.
The district’s British Legion branch chairman, Michael John Griffith, said: “We are currently looking for more members to enable our branch to continue its work especially maintaining local cenotaphs, poppy collections and remembrance service.
“New members do not need to be ex-service men or women, and more members will mean we can hopefully maintain the branch to its centenary in 2022.”
In 2014 the legion places a memorial plaque at Sarn Memorial Hall to commemorate those who died in the First World War.
The new plaque was placed at the site after it was discovered 14 names had been left off a wooden memorial board, containing the names of local men who died during the Great War, which has been kept in the old Ysgol Bryncroes for several years.
It was established that the wooden memorial board was too worn to be restored so members of legion branch and members of Sarn Village Hall began fundraising to create a new memorial plaque they can have on show in the village.
