Llandysul and Pont-Tyweli Walkers are Welcome hold their annual Walking Weekend from today until Sunday, 25 September and you are invited to join them.
Tom Cowcher, the chairman, said: “This a great opportunity to share in a variety of walks in the ‘Heart of the Teifi Valley’. Exercising amidst good company, in beautiful countryside with various walks to suit all abilities. Everyone is welcome ‘Let’s Walk On’!”
Beginning on Friday with an easy, evening Llandysul town history walk with members of the Llandysul Local History Society. This walk will finish at Y Porth where there will be freshly made pizza available and live music.
There are a further six walks to choose from over the following two days, of different lengths and skill.
Saturday has three walks. A circular walk to the top of Pencoed y Foel, which is the Iron Age enclosure overlooking Llandysul – this is a unique opportunity as there is no public access to the enclosure.
This walk is taking place by kind permission of the landowner. This is also the shortest walk of the day at five miles.
The Ponsian to Bwlch-y-fadfa walk, which is a 6.5-mile circular walk from Pontsian Hall, is the second walk.
Welsh is the language of this walk and learners of the language are very welcome.
A highlight of one of last year’s walks was fording the Afon Teifi as it was great fun to take off shoes and socks and gingerly wade through the river.
There will be another opportunity to do this on the eight-mile Penboyr to Pont-Tyweli walk, as long as conditions allow. You are advised to bring a towel!
On Saturday evening there will be bingo, a barbecue and lots of fun at the Porth Hotel and everyone is welcome. You don’t need to have been on any of the walks!
On Sunday morning there is a children’s walk with an autumnal theme at The Porth Hotel ‘Pumpkin Patch’.
For a more challenging walk there is a choice of a nine-mile walk from Horeb to Llandysul and a six-mile circular walk at Drefach Felindre.
