A YOUNG mother is calling for urgent action after her three-year-old son watched as their beloved pet dog was run over and killed outside a playground.

Siân Davies, 27, and her three-year-old son Jac Rhys were preparing to cross Church Street, Llandderfel, after they had been playing in the park with their pet Jack Russell terrier, Tess, who was due to turn two in May, when tragedy struck.

Siân, who was also with her friend Sioned Morris, 26, and Sioned’s two-year-old daughter Cadi, was holding Jac’s hand with one hand and Tess on a lead with the other.

“We didn’t even see the van coming it was going so fast. The van went over Tess’s head and then she went underneath the back wheels and was thrown,” said Siân, who also has a four-year-old daughter, Seren Haf, who was in school at the time.

“The van didn’t even stop. It just carried on going. Tess was till alive for 20 minutes. She was still breathing and blinking but was not responsive to anything.

“I had to walk home through the village carrying Tess while Jac was in tears.”

After the five-minute walk home with her distraught son, Siân drove to Bala to see a vet, where Tess sadly died.

“Jac is only three, but he understands everything. We tell Jac and Seren that when people die, they go into the sky. But they loved Tess and they have been so upset by it.

“I’m not a dog lover as such, but I have never cried so much.”
