A FORMER agriculture lecturer from the Llyn Peninsula has been appointed the High Sheriff of Gwynedd.

The Declaration ceremony of Kathryn Griffiths Ellis as High Sheriff of Gwynedd took place at St Aelhaearn’s Church on 25 March, followed by afternoon tea at her home, Llwyndyrus farm, Y Ffôr.

Kathryn, a farmer’s daughter from Dolclettwr Hall, Taliesin in Ceredigion, studied agriculture and worked at the Welsh Plant Breeding Station before her marriage and move to the farm on the Llyn Peninsula.

She worked at Eifionydd Farmers and lectured at Glynllifon Agricultural College.

During her years, she has been heavily involved within her community and further afield as a committee person and supporting various organisations throught the county.

She attributes her success to the Young Farmer Movement for giving her the opportunity to spread her wings and see the world, learn committee procedures, and public speaking.

Kathryn is proud of the fact that she is the third High Sheriff to have lived at Llwyndyrus Farm; the other two were Griffith ap William Madog serving in 1547 and 1553, followed by Richard Vaughan in 1578.

Her duties during the year will include supporting the Crown, Legal and Emergency Services, voluntary services, and attend civic ceremonies within the county.

Kathryn has decided to raise money during her year for the Air Ambulance and the High Sheriff charity Crimebeat.
