CARDIGAN town councillors have given their solid backing to Cardigan’s proposed £20m integrated care centre which came up before county planners yesterday (Wednesday).

Health chiefs have pledged that the new centre, located on the Bathhouse site, will provide a modern, fit-for-purpose healthcare service for the local population, bringing care closer to home and in the community.

And Ceredigion County Council officers will be recommending approval of the scheme when it came before the local authority’s development control committee.

Cardigan town mayor John Adams-Lewis has expressed concerns about the Bathhouse site, arguing that the centre could instead be sited on Parc Teifi industrial estate or at the site of the town’s hospital.

He has also maintained that “Cardigan needs and deserves a proper hospital with beds; not a glorified health centre.”
