A DOLGELLAU healthcare assistant who tackles health inequalities amongst men has received a prestigious nursing award.
Steven Evans-Jones, who is based at Dolgellau Hospital outpatient department, was crowned 2017 RCN Wales Healthcare Assistant of the Year at a ceremony in Cardiff.
Steven has helped to develop a range of initiatives to improve health education and reduce health inequalities in the rural area he serves, inside his hospital’s outpatient department and through building links with the wider community.
He is a regular at Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor Dolgellau where he holds awareness sessions with the students on issues such as testicular cancer and sexual health.
Steven, who is an ambassador for the men’s health charity Orchid, said he was delighted to receive the award.
He said: “I am thrilled to receive the RCN Wales Healthcare Assistant of the Year award for 2017. It was fantastic to be part of such a special event to acknowledge the hard-working staff within our NHS."
