TYWYN’s state-of-the-art hospital will officially open tomorrow, Thursday, 12 January.

The new, £5m development at Tywyn Memorial Hospital will be opened by Vaughan Gething AM, Cabinet secretary for Health, Wellbeing and Sport.

The medical facility originally opened to patients in March last year but has yet to be ‘officially’ opened by Betsi Cadwaladr.

The purpose-built three storey extension provides new accommodation at ground floor level for the GPs and their colleagues in Tywyn Health Centre, while on the first floor there is a new 16-bed ward.

Space is also now available that can be used by local voluntary organisations and partner agencies that work with us to support people’s health and well-being.

In addition, the former Dysynni Ward has been upgraded to provide outpatient clinics and therapy services, including physiotherapy and occupational therapy, and the minor injuries unit has been redecorated.

Dr Peter Higson, chair of Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board said: “I’m pleased that this long-awaited wonderful development has now been completed.

"We have brought together the primary and community health services in Tywyn, which will help colleagues work together to meet the needs of the local people and provide services as close to a patient’s home as possible."
