A NEW six-bed emergency unit has been opened at Bronglais Hospital to help ease pressure during periods of high demand.
The new escalation area will provide additional beds when demand is high and the hospital is technically full, especially for emergency patients who attend A&E and are assessed as needing to be admitted.
The new unit, which has been paid for by Hywel Dda Health Charities and a recent legacy to the charity, is co-located with Y Banwy ward and is a separate annexe with six side rooms, which can also be used as an isolation area during any infection outbreak.
Hazel Davies, the general manager at Bronglais, said: “The provision of these additional beds will mean better patient experience for all patients and particularly those attending the Bronglais A&E department, as previously we would have needed to open additional escalation beds in the Minors area.
“We are extremely grateful that the development of this area has been supported through Hywel Dda Health Charities and in particular through recent legacy.”
