Bronglais Hospital should see investment of £3m to bring services back to the hospital, help employ additional staff and ensure that all services needed for the mid Wales area are available, a new plan has said.
Under the strategy document drawn up by senior officials at Bronglais, there is a call for the money to be found to help protect and enhance services at Bronglais, as well as spark a reorganisation that would see more services provided in the community.
The ‘Delivering Excellent Rural Acute Care’ report went before the Mid Wales Joint Committee for Health and Care at the committee’s meeting yesterday.
It outlines how Bronglais could grow and ensure that vital services are available for mid Wales, warning that residents currently served by Bronglais are as entitled to the same services as those living in more urban areas.
A key part of the strategy is that more services would be provided in community facilities which would enable some reorganisation of how Bronglais works.
However, that would be aimed at ensuring that some services that have moved away from Bronglais would return, and with all current services continuing to be available at the hospital.
The plan says: “In order to achieve the Hywel Dda Health Board’s strategic objectives, reprofiling of services across its catchment will be required so that the new configuration of acute and community provision can deliver as planned.
“This will mean that Bronglais will need to do more work for patients within Hywel Dda.
“Some of this will be provided from community facilities and some will be provided at Bronglais.
“This is, in essence, both an expansion of Bronglais’s catchment area and of the services it provides and will be achieved by delivering efficiency improvements to allow increased throughput which will support future investment for extended service delivery.”
