EMERGENCY dental treatment will be available on the NHS at Machynlleth after Powys Health Board installed a mobile dental suite at Machynlleth Hospital.

The town had been left without an NHS dentist after the dentist at the Machynlleth Health Centre left, leaving NHS patients facing a trip to Aberystwyth or Dolgellau for emergency treatment.

While a new dentist has been appointed for the health centre, they are currently working a notice period and will not be in place in Machynlleth until the New Year.

But a spokesperson for the health board said the new mobile suite would allow patients to access emergency NHS treatment in Machynlleth without having to travel.

They said: “Powys Health Board is pleased to be able to announce that it has installed a mobile dental suite at Machynlleth Hospital in order to provide emergency dental services to the community until the permanent service restarts in the New Year.

“The mobile unit will be staffed by members of the Powys community dental team and the unit will remain in place until the My Dentist service restarts in the medical centre building in the New Year.

“Patients requiring urgent treatment should contact the unit on 01654 705270.”
