A £7,800,000 scheme that would see Machynlleth’s Bro Ddyfi Hospital become a hub for a range of health and social services has been welcomed in the town.

Welsh Government health secretary Vaughan Gething announced that the Bro Ddyfi scheme would receive funding as part of an overall programme of £68m to provide 19 new integrated health and care centres in Wales.

The plans for Bro Ddyfi Hospital would see a major redevelopment of the front block of the hospital to create an integrated hub which would house healthcare, community healthcare and outpatient services, as well as county council and third sector services.

Machynlleth councillor Michael Williams said there had been huge support in the Dyfi Valley for development at the hospital to help provide more services closer to home and help secure the future of the facility in the town.

Cllr Williams said: “I’m absolutely thrilled and delighted, as I’m sure everyone else will be.

“I, and many others, have been calling for development at the hospital to make more use of the old hospital building, which fronts onto the main road.

“I really hope now that everyone will be able to work together to deliver this scheme.

“It’s been a long campaign to get where we are now. I really welcome the announcement by the Welsh Government and the health board.”
