A hospital befriending volunteer, described as having a ‘beautifully calming influence’ on patients and staff, has been recognised for her efforts with a special award.
Laura McManus, from Talybont, near Barmouth, has received the Seren Betsi Star Award from Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board’s chief executive Gary Doherty (pictured).
The 32-year-old ‘Robin’ volunteer has been praised by staff at Dolgellau Hospital for her assistance with administrative work and for also helping to raise £100 towards purchasing furniture for the ward.
Sally Adams, Matron of Dolgellau Hospital, said: “Since Laura became a Robin here at Dolgellau Hospital I have noticed her incredibly kind approach with our patients.
“She has an excellent relationship with my staff on the ward and has a beautifully calming influence on everyone who is around her.
“She is such a friendly face to have around and makes all the staff tea and coffee and supplies us with lots of hugs when they are needed!”
