A Tywyn care home, which had been under-fire for several years after failing basic standards for the care of residents, has been given a clean bill of health by inspectors after a new management team was installed.

Last November, the Cambrian News reported that care inspectors found the Bay Nursing Home in Tywyn to be not compliant with regulations put in place to ensure that the care, safety and dignity of the county’s most vulnerable residents were upheld.

Previous inspections saw the home, owned by JSB Healthcare limited, receive scathing reports, with the latest, published in December last year, finding one resident had lost over 5kg in weight since entering the home, residents were often left for over 15 hours without access to water, and that staff were under-trained or under-supervised for their jobs.

According to the Care Inspectorate Wales inspectors, people in the home were put at “significant risk” of harm to their health and well-being.

The latest report, however, has seen big changes at the home, with inspectors finding that all its concerns had been assuaged.

“People living at The Bay are treated with respect by kind, friendly staff,” the new report says.

“People were positive about the care provided and risks to the health and safety of people using the service are managed appropriately,” the report adds.
