A Tremadog woman has braved a head shave in aid of Macmillan cancer support.

Yvonne Evans was given the new look by her local hairdresser Lara Karley, based in Porthmadog, after deciding three weeks ago to take the plunge and shave her head to raise money for Macmillan.

Yvonne is currently undergoing treatment for pancreatic cancer, after being diagnosed in 2015. She said that raising money for Macmillan was therefore a very personal goal, and the charity a cause “very close to my heart”.

Macmillan is a nationwide charity which provides emotional, physical and financial support for those living with cancer, and campaigns for better cancer care.

Yvonne said that the experience was “emotional” and meant much more than simply a hair change.

“The only thing I was scared of was looking ill – but after having done it I love it. I’m so glad I’ve done it for a good cause and on my own terms.”

She has raised £800 for the charity, far exceeding her original goal of £250.

She expressed her gratitude towards all who donated, saying “I’m overwhelmed with the kindness of friends and family who have sponsored me. Everyone has been very generous and kind.”
