THE VERY best of Meirionnydd’s natural scenery is showcased in a new series.

Iolo Williams reveals some of his favourite places in Snowdonia National Park, home to some fascinating wildlife and spectacular scenery.

Filmed over a year, Iolo’s Snowdonia reflects how the majestic landscape changes with the four seasons.

Coed y Brenin is featured in the first episode. Iolo meets Josie Bridges from the Vincent Wildlife Trust who is part of a team of experts tracking pine martens that they started releasing in mid Wales during 2015.

What is extraordinary, is that a family of pine martens has made its way to Snowdonia, a journey of around 50 miles from the release site.

Talyllyn and the Dysynni valley is also in the first episode and a “highly treacherous” walk to Bird Rock near Tywyn takes place.

In this episode, it is springtime and the perfect opportunity to look for wildlife, particularly nesting birds.

Part of his journey is at Nant Ffrancon at the very heart of Snowdonia.

One bird the intrepid naturalist is hoping to spot is the twite.

Though it may look like an insignificant brown sparrow, it is an extremely scarce bird rarely seen elsewhere in Wales or much of Britain.

In the rest of the series, Cader Idris, Brithdir and Berwyn all feature.

The first episode airs on Monday, 29 January at 8.30pm on BBC One Wales.
