Ceredigion grassroots coach Amlyn Ifans has been awarded a Community Coach of the Year award.
Amlyn picked up his award from ex-Bristol City winger, David Cotterill at the 2018 FAW & McDonald’s Grassroots Football Awards ceremony at Cardiff City Stadium in front of a crowd containing football legends Ian Rush and Danny Gabbidon, amongst others.
The FAW & McDonald’s Grassroots Football Awards, now in their eleventh year, is held to recognise and celebrate volunteers, coaches, clubs and leagues throughout Wales.
For the past two seasons, Amlyn has been holding regular Turn Up & Play sessions for girls to encourage them to become interested in football at a young age.
He also instigated and managed a very successful Under-8 girls’ competition during last year`s Bow Street Junior FC Festival and this will now become a regular event.
When Amlyn is not coaching the girls, he coaches and manages a Bow Street Under-14s boys’ team with great success.
Amlyn is committed to giving young people the opportunity to play football and the quality of his coaching leads them to become better and more regular players. He leads by example having obtained the necessary qualifications and has applied to progress to the B Licence course.
Amlyn is the co-ordinator for the club’s link with Swansea City which enables high quality training and advice passed to our coaches, enabling them to deliver better coaching sessions for our juniors.
Local McDonald’s franchisee Bob Beckett, who is an avid supporter of grassroots football in the local area, said: “We just want to congratulate Amlyn on his fantastic win, it’s great to see a national winner from Ceredigion.
“It’s people like Amlyn that keep the grassroots game going from strength to strength and we hope that this win inspires others in Ceredigion to get involved in grassroots football.”
