REPORTS of New Quay Football Club’s demise are greatly exaggerated, it emerged this week.

Ceredigion football fans had been rocked by claims the Seasiders were all washed up.

Formed in the early 1960s, New Quay were said to be quitting the Costcutter Ceredigion League because they were unable to raise a team.

But, following an SOS for more players put out on social media, secretary Andy Johnson revealed this week he was “99 per cent certain” New Quay would be able to field a side this season.

“It’s been a real call-to-arms – and people are answering,” Mr Johnson, 35, told the Cambrian News.

“Things are certainly looking a lot more rosy than they were last week.

“One of our senior players posted an appeal on Facebook which seems to have been shared by most of the town.

“It seems to have worked – a mix of new players and quite a few guys who have retired have come forward offering to help out.

“Even I’ve offered my playing services – and I hung my own boots up five years ago!”

New Quay FC are holding an open training session at Parc Arthur from 2pm to 3.15pm on Saturday. New and old players are welcome.
