MENCAP Ceredigion has opened a new Gateway social club for people with a learning disability in Cardigan and the surrounding area.

The club, which will meet every Monday night, will be hosted at the Castle Café in the centre of town.

Steven Greenhalgh, who runs the café, said: “We were approached by Mencap Ceredigion to see if we could entertain their members for a few hours.

“Many of the members are old friends anyway, as they often pop in for food during the day and we have had the pleasure of a few who have been here to work, so we were delighted to invite such wonderful people to the café.”

The club will hold different events each week as well as visiting other establishments in the town for darts or snooker nights which are a popular activity with their members.

Adrian Evans, a Mencap Ceredigion volunteer who helped to set up the club’s launch, said: “We have had so many members and their families contact us to re-establish the club.

“We knew our launch night would be popular and were expecting around thirty people to attend, but were amazed that nearly 60 came along."
