THIS SATURDAY will be the end of an era for past and present pupils and staff of Ysgol Friog, and a special event has been organised to mark the occasion.
At the end of this school academic year, the school known as Ysgol Friog will cease to exist when the building and its facilities become a branch of Ysgol Bro Idris, the new area school for the Dolgellau region.
Ysgol Friog opened in 1969 welcoming pupils from Arthog, Fairbourne, Friog and the surrounding areas.
On 8 July, a committee of teachers, governors and parents has organised a day of sports and evening celebrations to mark this sad but significant occasion.
At 1.30pm there will be the last ever sports day on the school field. In the evening people will gather at 6.30pm in Fairbourne Village Hall for presentations, memories and refreshments.
Current pupils are due to contribute to the event and organisers hope to see many former teachers and pupils there as well.
