ABERYSTWYTH’S popular promenade paddling pool could be closed permanently, it was feared this week.

Questions have long been raised about the future of the paddling pool which has been dogged by closures for repair work.

Last year it was claimed that the structure under the pool was unsafe and work costing £60,000 was necessary.

And now it looks like the council wants to close the pool completely and find a site for a new one, according to the Advancing Aberystwyth group which was formed as part of the Business Improvement District initiative.

A spokesperson said: “The council has informed us that it is not feasible to continue to operate a paddling pool from that site, and that they are keen to work in partnership with ourselves.

“As a result our Prom Development Group is currently in the process of exploring possible uses for the site.”

A council spokesperson said: “In collaboration with Advancing Aberystwyth, options are being considered for the future pool provision within the town, which would affect any decisions that are still to be made relating to the existing paddling pool.”

Local councillor Ceredig Davies said he had been in regular contact with council officers to try and make progress over the paddling pool which he said was hugely popular in the town.
