VOLUNTEERS from Machynlleth’s Gerddi Bro Ddyfi Gardens have helped pupils at Ysgol Bro Hyddgen plant a wildflower bed at the school.

As part of the Sowing Seeds project, which has benefited from Big Lottery funding, Angela Paxton, the project’s senior volunteer co-ordinator, and Anna Fisher, the assistant leader, worked with pupils from Reception, Year 1 and Year 2, to plant a variety of wildflowers and grasses and sowed native wildflower seeds which had been donated by the group.

The plants were chosen specifically to benefit wildlife such as bees and butterflies.

Haf ap Robert, the assistant headteacher at the school, said: “We are very grateful to Gerddi Bro Ddyfi Gardens for providing this opportunity to foundation phase children.

"Outdoor activities are a vital part of a young child’s school experience and it was wonderful to see the children engage with this opportunity. We look forward to seeing the flowers in bloom.”
