A HUGE revamp of Dolgellau’s primary school is under way.
The site will form part of the Ysgol Bro Idris super-school.
As the contractors, PaveAways, began work on the improvements, some of the staff and local councillors visited the site to have a look at the initial work.
The £2.5 million scheme involves substantial improvements, ensuring that it is suitable for pupils, improving access to the site and meeting 21st century school requirements.
Cllr Gareth Thomas, Gwynedd Council’s Cabinet member for education, said: “It was great to visit the Dolgellau primary site and to have the opportunity to discuss the improvement work that will be made.
“Work on this site forms part of a wider scheme worth over £4m that involves upgrading several sites to establish the new Ysgol Bro Idris area school that will open in September 2017.
“It is pleasing to note that work is progressing well on the Ieuan Gwynedd site in Rhydymain and that the £1m upgrade of the Llanelltyd site has also now commenced.”
The improvements being carried out at Dolgellau on the infants and junior sites include creating a suitable space for the Foundation Phase, upgrading the hall, revamping the classrooms, extra storage spaces, modern toilets, new site access, and creating a multi-purpose play area.
Work is expected to be completed during the summer term of 2017.
