A NEW artificial-surface footpath has been laid in the grounds of Ysgol Gynradd Talgarreg, providing a safer route to school for pupils.

The project has been delivered by Ceredigion County Council and was funded by the Welsh Government’s Safe Routes in Communities Scheme Grant.

The fund provides an opportunity for local authorities to provide safer walking and cycling routes between communities, to schools and colleges, to access public transport and a range of local services and opportunities.

Cllr Gareth Lloyd, Cabinet member for economic development, community development, culture and leisure has welcomed the provision of this new footpath.

He said: “We are delighted to have received this funding from the Welsh Government. The council has worked in partnership with Talgarreg Village Hall, who have kindly agreed that staff and parents are permitted to use the hall car park during school hours and then take a short walk on the path to the school.”

Cllr Lloyd, who is also a school governor, added: “This has already seen a reduction in the amount of cars parking in front of the school which caused congestion and safety concerns."
