CONCERNS have been raised after two Pwllheli pupils were taken to hospital after apparently drinking vodka at school.

Two ambulances were called out to Ysgol Glan y Môr on Monday, 18 April, at 12.30pm and the pupils were taken to Ysbyty Gwynedd, Bangor, for further treatment.

A spokesperson for Ysgol Glan y Môr would only say: “Two pupils were taken to hospital after being taken ill at school.”

But he promised an investigation, saying: “In accordance with our regular pupil welfare procedures, the school will be investigating the matter.”

A spokesperson for the Welsh Ambulance Service said: “We were called shortly after 12.30pm on Monday.

“We sent two emergency ambulances to the scene and two people were taken to Ysbyty Gwynedd.”

Following reports the pair had been drinking at school, Pwllheli town councillor Jonathan Roberts said he found the “incident disturbing”.

He said: “I’m sure questions need to be, and will be asked, about how children managed to get hold of the alcohol in the first place.

“I’ve been calling on the police and other agencies to keep a close eye on retail establishments in the town following incidents in Penlan Street car park, and now this.

“I hope everyone involved is okay and lessons are learned so nothing like this happens again.”
