An Aberystwyth mother has pulled her nine-year-old son out of school - going against government advice - saying “the risk is just too high” amid the ongoing coronavirus outbreak.

Lorna Carr, speaking to the Cambrian News, said she pulled her son out of Plascrug School “until the threat of the virus has passed” to ensure his safety.

“We spoke with the school and they were very understanding,” she said.

“For me, as a single parent, it is very worrying, and I know other parents feel the same and have taken their children out of the school.

“It’s ridiculous that the government has banned gatherings but expect us to take our children to school.

“In the end, the parents are making that decision instead.”

Lorna added that while children may experience lesser symptoms from the virus, they can spread it, and it is important to protect the people in at risk groups in the community.

“We have to put our families first,” she said.

Schools across the UK currently remain open but the UK Government say they are constantly reviewing the situation.

People are being advised to self-isolate for seven days if they display any symptoms of coronavirus, or 14 days if a member of their household does.
