WORK to create an extension as part of the planned new school for pupils aged three to 16 at Tregaron has been given the go-ahead by planners.
As part of the council’s shake-up of education in the area, it will create the new area school which will lead to the closure of the current primary and secondary school in Tregaron, as well as Llanddewi Brefi’s primary school.
The new area school will be based at the current secondary school site, but will see a new extension built, as well as a link corridor and refurbished gymnasium as part of the development.
The controversial development, which was strongly opposed by representatives from Llanddewi Brefi, can now go ahead after the planning application was granted approval under the planning department’s delegated powers.
The application said the works being planned were vital to ensure a high-quality school facility.
The report says: "This proposed development is for the construction of a new single-storey primary school extension for 154 pupils, a new corridor linking the primary, secondary, canteen and refurbished gymnasium."
