With a range of course options to suit different backgrounds and levels of experience, Aberystwyth is the ideal University in which to develop a career in nursing.

In addition to the BSc programmes in Adult and Mental Health Nursing, the new Cert HE in Healthcare Education offers an additional pathway for individuals to progress onto the second year of the degree schemes, or on to other health or social care roles.

Aberystwyth’s nursing courses offer part-time study options and students can follow up to 50 per cent of their course through the medium of Welsh. The University focuses on supporting its students throughout their time in nurse education and practice.

Gwenno Jones, a first-year Mental Health Nursing student, is pleased she chose to study at Aberystwyth: “The lecturers are great, they are so supportive, they take the time to really understand you as a person, which makes the whole experience very personal. It’s such a lovely course, it’s a great place, and I enjoy every minute of it.”

The University’s new £1.7 million Healthcare Education Centre was established a year ago and the first students have hailed the facilities and staff as ‘the best choice to start a career in nursing’.

The centre is home to state-of-the-art simulation suites with a range of innovative equipment including interactive manikins which can replicate serious conditions such as a heart attack.

Students also experience patient care using virtual reality headsets, and the centre has a community simulation room that is used to practice caring for patients in different types of settings. In addition, the Healthcare Education Centre has Dementia Friendly Status, with resources including a simulation train room used for reminiscence therapy training.
