THE chair of governors at Ysgol Bro Hyddgen has expressed his delight after the school improved in the Welsh Government’s school rating system.

Both primary and secondary streams at the school were placed in the ‘red’ category last year meaning the school was subject to “intensive support” but they have now moved up one category to ‘amber’.

Llanidloes High School leapt two categories from the ‘amber’ category last year, to the highest ‘green’ category this year.

Huw Morgan, chair of governors at Ysgol Bro Hyddgen, said: “We are very happy.

“As you know, we were in the red banding this time last year.

“Apparently we were within a whisker of being in the yellow category.

“The school has been working closely with Ysgol Bro Tawe in south Wales from the school management side of things.

“They are a model school and that has made a huge difference.

“But probably what has made the biggest difference is the huge effort from teachers, management and the pupils.”See this week's Machynlleth & Llanidloes edition for the full story, in shops and online now
