Three Ceredigion schools that are “surplus to requirements” will be sold off following Cabinet approval.

At its meeting tomorrow, county councillors will be asked to approve the “disposal” of the former Llanddewi Brefi CP School and former Tregaron CP School.

Both schools closed following the move to the new Ysgol Henry Richard 3-16 school in Tregaron.

A report to Cabinet states that consultations with both Llandewi Brefi Community Council and Tregaron Community Council were held but no interest was expressed in the buildings, nor were there any local community groups interested.

The former Ferwig CP School has been leased to a community group since 2007 and there has been interest in buying the freehold.

The Hen Ysgol y Ferwig Community Hub was awarded a Big Lottery Fund grant last year and has plans to continue its work.

No sale price is included in the report to Cabinet but reference is made to the need to include an “overage” or claw-back clause for if it is later resold for a higher, market value price.

This will mean the council would receive a share of any increase in price.
