Schoolchildren in Abersoch have been encouraging businesses to ‘siarad Cymraeg’.
This year’s Diwrnod Su’mae, an annual event which encourages everyone in Wales to say something in Welsh, has been marked in Abersoch by a partnership working to promote the benefits of using the language in business.
Ysgol Abersoch pupils teamed up with Hunaniaith: Menter Iaith Gwynedd, Cyngor Cymuned Llanengan and the Abersoch branch of Merched y Wawr to visit businesses to spread the message.
Elen Hughes of the Welsh in Business initiative took advantage of the opportunity to introduce the Welsh Government funded service which provides information, resources and a free translation service to small businesses.
Ifan Llewelyn Jones, of Hunaniaith, who co-ordinated the event, said: “There is a real advantage to using the language in business; local loyalty can be built up and retained, and visiting tourists delight in sampling a different and unique culture which might not have not realised they would encounter here.”
