A McDONALD’S customer is feeling distinctly down-in-the-mouth having calculated that in order to use a voucher he would have to undertake quite the journey.
The Cambrian News reader from Aberaeron who does not want to be named was looking forward to using his £1.99 burger and fries coupon on the back of his bus ticket at Aberystwyth McDonald’s, only to be told that the offer was ‘not valid at restaurants with a Drive Thru’.
“The only McDonald’s within 50 miles of my home has a Drive Thru,” he said. “The one in Carmarthen has a Drive Thru.
“In fact, of the 25 restaurants within 50 miles of Carmarthen, only two - Pontarddulais and one in Swansea - do not have a Drive Thru.
“Here’s what I have to do to if I want to use the £1.99 coupon today: I have to leave from Aberaeron on the T1 at 12.19pm.
“I’ll get to the Carmarthen train station and pick up the 2.05pm train from Carmarthen to Swansea. Then I get the 3.06pm X13 toward Ammanford to the Black Lion and walk four minutes to Pontarddulais.
“Total time to get to a McDonald’s without a Drive Thru? Three hours, 28 minutes. I can shave nine minutes off that time if I get to Swansea, where I could end up at the bus station, and walk 11 minutes to the restaurant.
“I have pointed all this out to McDonald’s Customer Services, but have yet to receive a reply.”
