A new footpath and cycle path will be built in Porthmadog, boosting the safety of schoolchildren in the town.
The new route will start from Penamser Garage, go past the industrial estate, leisure centre and Ysgol Eifion Wyn and Ysgol Eifionydd to the train station.
The Welsh Government-funded work, costing £81,500, will ensure a much safer route for pedestrians and bike riders along part of the A497.
Porthmadog East county councillor Nia Jeffreys said: “As a parent, I am delighted that the town has been successful in securing funds to improve the footpaths and cycling route.
“Ensuring safe routes for our children and young people to use at school and for recreational activity is vital.
“Seeing investment coming to Porthmadog to improve the area’s infrastructure is good news, and ensures that links are made between prominent locations which the community use regularly.”
County councillor Selwyn Griffiths agreed.
“This is particularly good news for us, here in the town of Porthmadog,” he said.
