FORMER Lampeter businessman David Smith has taken over from Cllr Chris Thomas as mayor of Lampeter.

Mr Smith, a former RAF employee who ran the town’s Office Supplies shop for many years, became a town councillor in 2012. His wife Meg (pictured with him) will serve as mayoress.

“Chris is going to be an extremely hard act to follow because of all the work he does behind the scenes,” Cllr Smith said.

“The mayor’s chain goes back a long way and I’m very honoured to be taking on the role. There’s a responsibility to highlight the town in the best possible manner and act as an ambassador on every possible occasion.”
