A man who was caught drug-driving and who gave police his brother’s name has been jailed.

Paul Simon Dixon, 34, of Heaton Norris, Stockport, gave false details to a police officer when he was stopped driving his Ford Focus on the A497 at Afonwen, near Pwllheli, on Saturday, 6 October, 2018.

He tested positive for cannabis during a roadside drugs test.

Dixon (pictured) was arrested and taken into police custody where he was later released under investigation pending the results of further tests.

The next day, officers attended a local holiday park where Dixon was staying, as further police enquiries had revealed he had given his brother’s details.

He was subsequently arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice by providing false details.

During interview he made a full and frank admission to providing false details and explained that he thought he was wanted and didn’t want to be arrested and remanded.

His vehicle was also seized due to him having a revoked driving licence.

Tests results have since revealed that Dixon had cannabis in his blood and was four times the limit.

At Caernarfon Crown Court last Wednesday, he was sentenced to 12 months in prison and was disqualified from driving for three and a half years.

PC Gerallt Williams of the Roads Policing Unit said: “Choosing to drive when impaired by drugs is dangerous and unacceptable. Anyone who breaks the law can expect to face prosecution, and if they lie about their involvement, they will face consequences far more severe than a fine and disqualification.”
