A WEDDING was ruined when a man staying at the same Aberystwyth hotel accused guests of having sex with his girlfriend - then bit the groom.
Damian Paine, 43, and wife Louise, 34, missed their first dance and were unable to cut their wedding cake after the big day was disrupted.
The wedding, held in Gwesty’r Marine Hotel, took a turn for the worse when Neil Jones, 35, who was staying at the hotel, confronted a guest who he thought was sleeping with his partner.
Jones banged on the door of the guest’s room and Mr Paine, who had just finished the wedding dinner, was forced to intervene.
He then bit Mr Paine, before headbutting the hotel’s main entrance door as dozens of guests watched in horror.
Jones was found guilty of assault by making threats, causing criminal damage to a door and assaulting the groom.
After police arrested Jones, four officers stayed at the wedding for the rest of the evening while Mr Paine was taken to hospital for blood tests.
He said: “It completely ruined the wedding. At least five officers remained in the hotel and all the guests were confused or in a state of shock.
“Louise is devastated. She’s a nice young lady and always smiles, but it was her special day.
“We organised it and prepared all the flowers ourselves – it was such an important day.
“Now we are embarrassed.
“Louise was mainly concerned for my health at first but it turned to anger as things calmed down.”
The incident took place after the dinner, as guests waited for the entertainment to start.
Mr Paine, whose stepdaughter Louise, 10, was present but didn’t witness the assault, added: “Between the wedding breakfast and the start of the entertainment, a guest ran into the dining room screaming my name out.
“I find a guy trying to ram the door down of this hotel room. He was shouting about how his wife was being f***** in the room.
“Then he jumped towards me and I took him to the ground, which is when he bit my arm and wouldn’t let go. I had to go to hospital as he was arrested. We didn’t cut the cake and missed our first dance - it was awful.”
Jones, of Flat 3, 30 Northgate Street, Aberystwyth, was given an 18-month community order when he appeared at Aberystwyth Magistrates Court for a two-day trial earlier this month.
He pleaded guilty to assault by making threats and causing criminal damage to a door.
He denied assault by biting during the incident on 18 May, claiming he acted in self-defence, but was also found guilty.
Alan Lewis, defending, said Jones had been using drugs and was “deeply sorry” for disrupting the wedding.
Jones must pay compensation of £245, £100 to the Atlantic Hotel for the door and costs of £860.
