MYSTERIOUS white waxy lumps found washed up on Ynyslas beach originate from an “industrial” source, officials have confirmed.
Found on the shingle banks of the beach close to Ynyslas village, the white lumps were reported to staff at Dyfi Ynyslas Nature Reserve.
But after removing the lumps they found on the beach and sending samples off for testing, the substance has been confirmed as “solidified synthetic oil”.
“The results have confirmed that these deposits are a solidified synthetic oil associated with industrial processes, similar to paraffin wax,” a spokesperson for the reserve said.”
Should anyone find any of the lumps, staff have advised beach-goers to call the 24-hour incident helpline on: 03000 653000.
The spokesperson added: “We also advise that you do not pick them up, or touch them.
“Please also make sure that dogs are kept under control and make sure they do not touch or eat them.
“If your dog does ingest this material, you should consult a vet immediately.”
