On 10 November, the members were invited to presentations by local students who attended one of the Outward Bound Trust courses for young people in the Lake District. Each year the club fund two to three students to attend one of the courses run by the Outward Bound Trust. The successful candidates are given the opportunity to join groups from different backgrounds and nationalities at one of the Trust’s activity centres. The courses are designed for young people who spend three weeks learning different outdoor skills to gain confidence in themselves and develop greater self-sufficiency.
This year the applicants chosen by interview were Chantelle-Nicole Tomkins, Chloe Sturrs and Charlie Cartwright from Ysgol Uwchradd Tywyn. Each were given a bursary by the club, and were also invited to raise a proportion of the cost of the course either individually or as a group. The girls produced excellent photographic presentations of their many activities that included water sports, gorge walking, climbing and survival techniques among many others. They gave good accounts of their experiences, their impressions and the different people that they met on their adventure in Ullswater.
