Rotary club
ON 31 October, The Rotary Club of Tywyn was pleased to invite Steve Beech to describe the community electric car rental scheme recently introduced in Abergynolwyn.
Steve explained that people without their own transport in remote rural were totally reliant on public transport for their everyday requirements.
The car rental scheme is designed to provide clean and affordable car rental to local residents.
The organisers have acquired two Nissan Leaf electric cars for rental and installed a ‘plug in and leave’ electric charging point outside Caffi’r Ceunant for members of the scheme.
Rental charges for car hire are £1 for one hour, £6 overnight or £21 for 24 hours.
The Nissan Leaf cars have a range of 168 miles on a full charge that is sufficient for a local shopping expedition.
Cars are available from 8am to 8pm daily and there is no cost for charging in Abergynolwyn at the scheme charging point.
The cars may be rented to members of the scheme via the Co-Wheels car group.
The project will be officially launched in Abergynolwyn on 10 November at 3pm at Y Canolfan Community Centre.
On behalf of The Rotary Club of Tywyn, president Graham Clark thanked Steve for his presentation and, as is the custom with all speakers, presented Steve with a cheque for £100 for his chosen charity (pictured).
