IT has been a busy week for the Penparcau Community Forum.
On Monday, 29 October, Welsh Government minister for health and social care, Vaughan Gething AM, called at The Hub with fellow AM, Joyce Watson.
Mr Gething and Ms Watson spoke over a cup of tea and bara brith with volunteers and locals about the Youth Forum and the PCF’s ongoing collaborations with funders and institutions including Aberystwyth University, The National Library of Wales and the People’s Health Trust.
Mr Gething later tweeted that the PCF was a “perfect example of what community activism can achieve”.
On the 30th, The People’s Health Trust held an afternoon tea of their own at the Savoy in London, celebrating the Health Lottery having raised £100m.
Remembrance SundayThe Neuadd Goffa War Memorial Hall was the venue on Remembrance Sunday to mark 100-year armistice of the 1914-18 war signed between the allies of the First World War and Germany.Trustee and vice-chair of the War Memorial Committee, retired town and county councillor Goronwy Edwards MBE compèred the Armistice Day Service, also known as Remembrance Day with a welcome to Aberystwyth mayor Talat Chaudhri and councillors present and to the packed hall of attendees all of whom had come to pay their respects to the fallen of both world wars. The committee were particularly pleased to see the number of youngsters that came, not only to the service but for their laying of wreaths.Rev J D Laurence of St Anne’s Church officiated.His welcome included that: “We have come together in a simple act of remembrance, to bring to mind the men and women who gave of themselves freely, during times of war or conflict. During our prayers, hymns, readings, reflection and the silence, we come to give thanks to God for those who have freely given of themselves, so that we might know freedom and peace.”He concluded his service with a message to encourage all people to dedicate themselves to future peace.If you’re a member of a club, society or group, send your news to [email protected]
