Winning butchers
THERE were major awards for Dyfi Valley butchers, William Lloyd Williams of Machynlleth, winners at the Dalziel Ltd & Filmor D & E North Wales & Cheshire Awards for Excellence in meat products. William collected gold awards for paradise loin and cushion of lamb with lemon and mixed herbs, and silver awards for pork lemon and sage burger, black mountain grille and faggots Cymru.

THE British Legion meeting on 7 March was opened by chairman, Stephen Doyle, and the Exhortation was given by Anthony Jones. The minutes of the February meeting were read out by Anthony and accepted as a true record.Major Ifan Price Edwards said he hoped everybody had an enjoyable time at the St David’s Day lunch, and said that the guests from the army in Germany and Essex had all enjoyed it. Anthony Jones thanked Eirian Owen Jenkins for organising a good day, enjoyed by all. Armed Forces Day on 17 June at Caernarvon – Anthony Jones asked all members wanting to go to pay for their seat at the April meeting. Major Ifan Price Edwards said he would get the money from his members in the next RWF meeting in April.Welfare officer Stephen Doyle told members that he had to go and have more training to update him on the paperwork. Sick visitor Elsbeth McAuley told members that she has visited a member in the town, who hasn’t been well for a while and other members had spells in hospital.Stephen Doyle told members that he had booked two barges on the Welshpool canal in August. Stephen said that there was no fee, only donations, and, following a short discussion, it was agreed that members who wanted to go would each make a £5 donation.Members were shown two framed certificates which are to be presented to the Machynlleth Cadets by way of demonstrating the branch’ appreciation of the help the Cadets had given during the Poppy Ap-peal. Anthony Jones told members that he would be going into hospital soon for an operation, and that assistant secretary Sylvia Whittaker would be taking his place.There being no further business, the meeting ended at 2.50pm with the Kohima Epitaph.
Bowlers’ fundraising
CONTINUING their highly successful fundraising for local/national charities and other worthy causes, Machynlleth Bowling Club is sending a cordial welcome to all to spend an evening with ex-Liverpool footballer Alan Kennedy and a named comedian on Saturday, 6 May. Tickets cost £15 each and are available at the bowling club. This event is being held to raise funds for Future Play Machynlleth, who are seeking to enhance the Plas playground, and is a must for all football fans, entertainment lovers and supporters of Future Play Machynlleth.
Council Meeting
MACHYNLLETH Town Council will be holding its last ordinary monthly meeting of the current council on Monday, 24 April, prior to the local elections on 4 May.The meeting will be held at Plas Machynlleth at 6.30pm and members of the public and press are welcome to attend.Rail Focus Group THE Shrewsbury-Aberystwyth Railway Liaison Committee has arranged a series of Cambrian Line Focus Group’s to ask “What do you think of the rail services on the Cambrian Line?”The Machynlleth event will be held at the Plas on Thursday, 13 April, at 7pm. This will be an opportunity to air your views about the current service and how it could be improved. Just come along as there is no need to pre-register.
Welsh language recording
ON Wednesday, 19 April, at the Tabernacle MOMA, Menteriaith Maldwyn will be recording a Welsh language programme for BBC Radio Cymru – a ‘question time’ on nature. The show starts at 7pm (be advised to attend by 6.30pm to gain a seat). Hosted by Gerallt Pennant, the panel will be Iolo Williams, Bethan Wyn Jones, Rhys Owen and Donald Morgan.
