British Legion
THE Legion met on Tuesday, 6 December, when the meeting was opened by chairman Stephen Doyle.Stephen asked members to stand for a minute’s silence in memory of former chairman and long-serving member Richie Jones, after which The Exhortation was given by Anthony Jones.
The minutes of the October meeting were read out by Anthony, proposed by Sylvia Whittaker and seconded by Evelyn Jones.
NW district committee minutes and an email from NW District secretary Adrian Leslie answering a query from branch secretary Anthony about the club sticker on the membership cards were received.
Adrian said that is for Legion clubs only and members have to put their photos on the cards so that they can recognise who the club members are – this does not affect branch members.
Poppy Appeal organiser Stephen told members that the branch should make around £3,200 when all the boxes are in.
Stephen warned members they are going to need even more help next year.
Treasurer Iris Doyle told members that four small cheque payouts needed to be paid, that there was £1,186.52 in the current account and £1,336.12 in the benevolent account.
Iris said that she and Stephen would like to go on a treasurer’s course with the RBL. Kath Holt said this was a good idea and that “it can only help the branch".
Sick visitor Elsbeth Mcauley told members that she had visited Marilyn Jones and taken her a bouquet of flowers, and also visited another member in Tregarth who has not been well.
Members asked Anthony to send a thank you card to Deborah Jones for doing an excellent buffet on Remembrance Sunday.
Sylvia told members that former chairman David Williams of the Aberystwyth branch of the RBL is arranging a visit to the cemeteries on the Isle of Man and asked if members would like to go.
Kath asked if the branch could get more RBL badges. Stephen said he could order some, but it was better to wait till the next meeting to see how many were needed.
Stephen asked members to vote to elect RBL Tywyn and Aberdovey branch onto Machynlleth branch as a sub group for three years. The vote was unanimous.
Elsbeth told members that she went to see the poppy display at Caernarfon Castle and that it was an excellent display.The meeting was closed at 3.10pm with the Kohima Epitaph.

WHITE Horse and Wynnstay emerged as the front runners in round 12 of the Dyfi Valley Dominoes League.

Indoor Bowls
ALTHOUGH unable to dislodge unbeaten leaders Ffrith IBC, Bro Ddyfi Indoor Bowls Club collected two points from their trip to north Wales in the Welsh Indoor Bowls Association Club Championship on Saturday, 28 January.

Royal Welch Fusiliers
THE Comrades Association of Machynlleth, Tywyn and Dolgellau met on Thursday, 5 January, with Major Ifan Price-Edwards and Cpl Gwyn Roberts presiding.
A minute’s silence was held for the passing away of Jimmy Fleming SWB from Machynlleth, a Burma Kohima veteran and the Kohima epitaph read.
Christmas lunch at Tyn y Cornel with the Royal British Legion went well, with 27 attendees.
Dates for Capel Bangor fun day, VE-VJ day black tie celebration on Saturday, 24 June, at Caernarfon was announced with a bus being laid on by Machynlleth Royal British Legion at £12 per person.
Attempts by Major P E to connect with Blaenau Ffestiniog and visit their RWF club/museum had so far fallen on deaf ears.
The branch AGM was confirmed for 2 March at the bowling club at 7pm.
Dai’s day lunch and the traditional leek eating ceremony was confirmed for Saturday, 25 February, at the golf club – regimental headdress and medals required.
Lt Col Glyn Llewellyn RWF/R Welsh was congratulated on being made an OBE.
The Army Cadet Force platoon was also congratulated on receiving the Lord Lieutenant’s Certificate for becoming the second largest north Powys contingent. A visit to Cader Brewery in Dolgellau was proposed.
Major Ifan was pleasantly surprised to have his 60th birthday celebrated by the branch with a RWF cake, bubbly and a bottle of whiskey.
Pool
MACHYNLLETH’S A and B teams lost in the North Wales Pool Association Interleague on Sunday, 8 January.
Machynlleth A lost their first division encounter to visitors Wrexham 18-22. Meanwhile, in the second division, newly promoted Machynlleth B suffered a similar fate, going down 17-23 at Conwy.
