Senior citizens
MACHYNLLETH’S mayor has thanked residents and businesses in the town for their support towards the annual senior citizens’ Christmas lunch.
Monica Atkins said the dinner, organised by the town council for senior citizens in the town, had been another success, with a raffle during the event raising £94, and said she was grateful for the support and assistance from people in the town.
Cllr Atkins said: "I’m very thankful for the support I had for the raffle and the event, and for the support, cards and messages I’ve had after the dinner. "I’m very grateful to the townspeople for their support."

Tabernacl’s Jazz and Beethoven
FRIDAY, 28 February, at 7.30pm sees a presentation of Beethoven in Wales and features Mary Hofman on violin and Richard Ormrod on piano.
This is a project to perform all 10 Beethoven violin and piano sonatas in ten music clubs across Wales.
A new work has also been commissioned for each set of sonatas.
The same weekend there will be a jazz night at Y Tabernacle with Amane Suganami (piano), Twm Dylan (bass) and Will Cleasby (bass).
This will be on Saturday, 29 February, with a Q&A session at 6.30pm and the concert at 7.30pm.
Enquire at Tabernacle for more information, but under 18s admitted for free to both events.
Dyfi U3A
DYFI U3A . university of the third age . will be holding its next monthly meeting at 2pm in the bowling club on Friday, 21 February.
Guest speaker to be arranged. The annual subscription fee is £15 and is payable in January and is decreased gradually through the ensuing months.
Art club
THE club meets every second and fourth Tuesday of the month at the bowling club from 1pm to 3.30pm.
The club welcomes all, experienced and inexperienced, with plenty of help, advice and support with any problems.
£3 a session includes tea, coffee and biscuits.

Coffee and pancakes
ST Peter’s Church is hosting a Mothers’ Union Shrove Tuesday coffee/tea and pancakes event on 25 February, from 10am to noon.
Admission is £3 for coffee/tea and pancakes.
Proceeds towards the Mothers’ Union.
Play
WEST, a play by Owen Thomas and staring Gareth John Bale and Gwenllian Higginson, will be performed at the Tabernacle MOMA Machynlleth on Thursday, 20 February, at 7.30pm.
Tickets are £10 each on the door.
West was commissioned by the North American Festival of Wales and received its first public performance in the Ballroom of the Hilton Hotel Milwaukee, Wisconsin on 30 August 2019.
The first American performance received a standing ovation from an enthusiastic audience.
XR Extinction Weekend
XR Extinction Rebellion is offering a free skill up training and community weekend at Y Plas on February 22 and 23 from 9.30am to 5pm.

Dominoes
SKINNERS survived a thrilling 7-6 home defeat to Foresters to capture the 2019/20 Dyfi Valley Dominoes League champions’ silverware, following the recent last round of fixtures.
Foresters picked up their just reward, securing the runners-up prize just two points behind the champions.
Also, bringing this season’s fixtures to a close, Dovey won 8-5 at Divas and Wynnstay Llan. edged to a 7-6 home verdict over Bowling Club.
Final Table: Skinners (77), Foresters (75), Dovey (63), Bowling Club (60), Wynnstay Llan. (60), Divas (55).
