Leaves of Love

A REMEMBRANCE poppy Christmas tree has been placed in the town hall foyer.

The Royal British Legion Women’s Section has placed 2,300 handmade crochet, felt and knitted poppies on the tree; 100 poppies for each named man on the Llanidloes & District Cenotaph who were lost in the Second World War.

The Leaves of Love with written Christmas messages will be attached to the tree. You may wish to put a message on your leaf for a loved one, your family or from you to your friends.

The tree (pictured) will be available to view most days in the foyer until after the new year.

If you would like the ladies to attach one for you, they are available from members of RBLWS, The Red Lion Hotel and Woosnam & Davies News. The Ladies would like to thank the town council for their support in providing the space in the foyer for their tree.

Money raised from the leaves of love will go towards a plaque and trees in 2020 to commemorate the 75th year of the end of the Second World War.

Rotary club

OVER the past week, the club has been particularly busy, starting with a raffle at Llanidloes Christmas lights switch-on event in aid of Crisis Wales, followed by road policing at the Trefeglwys parade from the community centre to the church and the lights switch-on.

However the highlight of the week was undoubtedly Heather Pugh. She was introduced by Mike Catley and gave a talk and slideshow of her fundraising and adventure to Canada for the Macmillan Cancer Trust for which she raised a staggering £15,000.

Both the scenery and wild bear pictures were stunning. Heather explained that you had to be super fit to undertake such an undertaking.

When asked would you do it again, she said: “Absolutely, and I would encourage others too.”

Charles Cowan gave the vote of thanks praising her on such a wonderful achievement.

The annual street collection on Saturday, 21 December will be in aid of the Anthony Nolan Trust, who saved the life of one of the members.
